Announcing Gitlab support for CI/CD

We're excited to announce that Metaplane's data CI/CD capabilities now support GitLab repositories! Building on our existing GitHub integration, this expansion brings proactive data quality checks to teams using GitLab for their dbt development workflow.

Announcing Gitlab support for CI/CD

Why data CI/CD matters

Traditional CI/CD improved software development by automating tests and catching bugs before they reach production. Data CI/CD applies this same principle to data transformations—helping you forecast downstream impact and merge pull requests confidently (and hopefully break a few less dashboards along the way).

Explore the impact and test status of any merge request.

What's new

With this release, teams using GitLab can now:

  • Preview data impact: Automatically understand which downstream assets (tables, dashboards, etc.) might be affected by changes in your dbt models.
  • Test data changes: Forecast how your changes will affect data quality before merging by comparing results between production and your PR's changes.
  • Be proactive about data quality: Your entire data team can now see how changes will ripple through your data stack before they happen, right in GitLab merge requests—helping you catch potential issues while you can still do something about them.
See the downstream impact from merge requests.
Automated tests alert you to what the merge request will change — both on the node and downstream of it.

The GitLab integration is available for both cloud and on-prem (self-serve) instances. Check out our updated documentation for detailed setup instructions for using data CI/CD with GitLab.
