Introducing Metaplane's Public API
We built Metaplane for data engineers, and we’re always on the lookout for ways we can help you make your monitoring more robust, more flexible, and more powerful.
That’s why we’re thrilled to announce our first public API.
When we first built Metaplane, we knew we wanted to build it primarily for data engineers—the folks who use Metaplane every day to make sure their data is correct, complete, and where it needs to be. As such, we knew that Metaplane needed to be powerful and flexible, and built to work where you work.
That’s why we’re thrilled to announce our first public API. By using the API, you can have even finer control over how and when your data is monitored. There are so many ways you can use our new API. Here are just a few.
The custom orchestrator
Does your data loading schedule not fit cleanly into a regular cron patter? Use the API to fully automate when Metaplane runs your monitors.
You can first get all the monitors associated with a connection, then run those monitors. You can also tell us when to sync your connection.
The automated setup
If your data changes in complex ways, you might want to fully tailor when and how your monitors in Metaplane get created and updated. By using the API you could, for example, set up a GitHub action that automatically adds the appropriate monitors when a new dbt model is merged.
The context puller
Need to understand if your data is healthy, or how it’s behaving over time? The API can be used to pull the list of monitors for a given table or column fetch the latest “status” (observation, prediction, bounds, and state) for a given monitor. You can then pull it into a BI tool or check it in a transformation DAG to make sure you have all the context you need.
We hope our API will open up new ways to access and leverage Metaplane’s insights into your data.
Check out the documentation for our new API here. Our team is happy to walk you through it, or answer any questions you have. We’re excited to see what you build!
