New integration: Segment
Metaplane now integrates with Segment to provide further visibility upstream into how your data lands in your warehouse.
Segment integration benefits
No matter which data warehouse you use to store your Segment events, Metaplane’s automated lineage will help you identify how your data was ingested into the warehouse. This will be useful for larger teams where some members of the data team aren’t always involved with setting up or maintaining data ingestion. By understanding upstream lineage, your team can find the root cause of data quality incidents much faster.
Understanding data quality incidents originating from Segment can help resolve situations such as:
- Pixels misfiring–This can result in missed events that are critically important to the business. On the other hand, this can also result in duplicate events that could exponentially increase your Segment bill.
- New or changed event parameters—This will usually result in schema changes in the warehouse. Those schema changes usually require your data team(s) to update references in queries to ensure uninterrupted data pipeline flow.
In addition to Segment, Metaplane also supports other upstream lineage objects, including:
- Everything in your warehouse—We use proprietary query parsing to generate column-level lineage to understand how your data pipelines in your warehouse are constructed.
- Fivetran—We also integrate with Fivetran so that you can see which tables and schemas your connectors are loading data into.
Get started with Metaplane and Segment
If you already have a Metaplane account, all you’ll need to get started is an API key to access your Segment account.
Otherwise, to get started with Metaplane, you can create an account or pick a time to learn more about data observability best practices from the team. New users can implement data observability within the hour!
